I am delighted to write an account of my new life with Fajita. Sometimes I find myself thinking that maybe it’s okay that the woman hit me on my bike because if it hadn’t happened, Fajita wouldn’t be here! It is hard to imagine that a better dog has ever been born to New Horizons. It’s not just that Fajita can help me when I drop things and close the door when I go out, or heel perfectly without pulling me. It is the way she is…calm, loving, reliable, sweet, and even beautiful, that makes me feel all soft inside.
Everything is better since Fajita is here. She is a friendly and gregarious dog and my college students say that she is a great addition to the class. They have to hold themselves back from petting her unless I tell her that she can make a friend, so I went back to keeping the “do not pet” sign on her leash wherever we go. It’s hard to resist people’s enthusiasm for her because I really don’t blame them. I often feel as though I could just sit and hug her all day! I don’t remotely know how to thank New Horizons enough for the gift of Fajita.
